MARKET NEWS
India set to attract billions with JPMorgan bond inclusion
India is poised to attract billions of dollars in inflows as JPMorgan Chase & Co. includes the nation's government bonds in its emerging markets index. This inclusion is expected to open up India's $1.3 trillion bond market to a broader range of global investors. Since the announcement, nearly $11 billion has already flowed into index-eligible bonds. The move is anticipated to enhance liquidity and lower borrowing costs for the Indian government, potentially drawing up to $25 billion in foreign investments. (Straits Times)
Shell pauses construction of Dutch biofuels facility
Royal Dutch Shell has announced a pause in the construction of its large biofuels facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The facility, which was expected to start production in 2024, aimed to produce 820,000 tonnes per year of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel from waste products. This project is part of Shell’s broader strategy to reduce traditional fuel production by 55% by 2030 and shift towards low-carbon energy solutions. The halt in construction is due to a reassessment of the project's financial viability amid rising costs and market uncertainties. Shell remains committed to its long-term goals of sustainability and carbon reduction. (Reuters)
NFL hit with $4.7 billion verdict in 'Sunday Ticket' antitrust trial
A federal jury has ordered the NFL to pay over $4.7 billion in damages for overcharging subscribers of its "Sunday Ticket" package. The lawsuit claimed the NFL conspired to inflate prices through exclusive agreements with broadcast partners, affecting millions of residential and commercial subscribers. The verdict includes $4.6 billion for residential and $96 million for commercial subscribers. The NFL plans to contest the decision, labeling the claims as baseless. A judge could potentially triple the damages under U.S. antitrust laws. (Reuters)
