Southwest Airlines pilots approve new five-year contract (CNBC)

Southwest Airlines' pilots have approved a new labor agreement, securing a substantial 50% pay raise over five years after negotiations for improved compensation, retirement benefits, and scheduling processes. The overwhelming 93% approval by the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association highlights the industry-wide trend of airlines offering competitive contracts to attract and retain skilled pilots in the post-pandemic travel resurgence.

Japan has joined the select group of nations, including the U.S., Russia, China, and India, by successfully completing a soft landing on the moon's surface. Mark Zuckerberg indicates Meta is spending billions of dollars on Nvidia AI chips (CNBC)

Meta is investing billions in Nvidia's computer chips for its AI research and projects, with plans to integrate 350,000 H100 graphics cards into its compute infrastructure by the end of 2024. The H100 GPUs, estimated to cost between $25,000 and $30,000 each, align with Meta's focus on artificial general intelligence (AGI), a long-term vision for the company, and contribute to the projected total expenses of $94 billion to $99 billion for 2024, with AI being a key investment area.

Compass buys caterer CH&CO for $600 mln in its biggest European deal to date (Reuters)

Compass Group, the world's largest catering group, has agreed to acquire rival CH&CO for £475 million ($603.73 million), including debt. The deal, Compass's largest acquisition in Europe to date, is part of its strategy for bolt-on acquisitions as it recovers from the pandemic, with CH&CO providing catering services to various venues, including the Royal Opera House and Abbey Road Studios in London.
